Different domain names.

A domain is the name of your site as you may know already
Example: www.MultiSEO.tk
There is also Sub-domains.
Example: www.MultiSEO.co.cc

Now the difference between them is that a subdomain is a extended domain name.
If you are blogging on a blogging website you may get a domain like: www.Website.blogger.com
Meaning your domain is owned by blogger.com.

Having a sub-domain is not as effective as having a standard domain.
If you are blogging about pets and have a sub domain you will not beat your competitors if they got a real domain with the same subject.
www.BrownDog.com beats www.BrownDog.blogger.com
Because the search engine only wants the words "brown dog" when someone searches for it.
The word "blogger" has nothing to do with dogs therefore it is not as important to show in the search engine.

An other important things is the ending of your domain name.
There are a few free domain endings, such as .tk and .co.cc and .co.nr.
Though a paid domain name seems to always attract more traffic.
A paid domain name can be: .com .org .net .biz .me .info etc.

This is how most people rank the domain name endings.
1) .com
2) .org
3) .net
4) .tk
5) .me
6) .co.cc
7) .biz
8) .co.nr

Remember that (co.cc and co.nr) are sub-domains and will not be as effective as a real domain when it comes to SEO. The .tk domain is really good, it's free and it's a real domain name. You can get it here: www.dot.tk.
The best place we've found to be for buying paid domain names are at www.Godaddy.com.
But there are ofcourse many other places aswel.
Remember to always take the free domains even if they are not your main domain, this is to secure your site against others who might want to steal your name and use those against you.
