Learn from others.

That's right, learning from others is one of the most crucial thing you will ever do.
This is almost only for those who are up to rank high with a quite competitive word.

Lets say you want to start a new gaming website for reviews.
The best thing to do would then be to check out other gaming websites keywords and descriptions.
Here is a free tool you can use for that: hzuo.
Just type in a website and you will get all the information about it.
Ranks, description, keywords, link, bookmarks etc.
But the main thing you should look at is the keywords and description.

So we type in a well known gaming site (www.IGN.com) and find this:
Keywords: video games, cheats, movies, reviews.
Description: IGN is your site for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, DS, PSP & iPhone games with expert reviews, news, previews, trailers, cheat codes, strategy guides & walkthroughs.

As you see, you have now learned a successful build of keywords and description for a gaming site.
If you are smart you would take some of their keywords and make it fit your site.
It might be something like this:

<head>
<title>My website</title>
<meta name="Description" content="My website if the best site for Xbox, PC and Wii reviews, previews and extra fact about various games." />
<meta name="Keywords" content="Reviews, reviewing, PC, video, games," />
</head>

Notice how i used both "reviews" and "reviewing" to get more attention.
It's not the same word but it has almost the same meaning and people searches for both of them.
It's a good idea to re-use words that are important for you in various forms.
But never use the same keyword twice, like: video games, PC games.
